I have spent years dealing with Diabetes. That’s the key word–“dealing”. And then one day in the summer of 2014 I decided to change my perspective. I decided to be nicer to this disease in my life, instead of ignoring it, or fearing what it would bring next. Instead of putting this disease on the back burner behind every other priority in my life, I’d move it front and center. I wanted to spend a little time trying to charm the pants of Diabetes. Being proactive instead of reactive. The ongoing goal being to live a full life in control of Diabetes, instead of pretending like it doesn’t exist (which was my MO for a while). The first step in that process was writing a letter to my Diabetes, which just sounds ludicrous, but it genuinely helped me see this disease, and my relationship with it, in a different light.
At some point I realized there must be others who understand, who have similar struggles, feelings, and their own unique perspectives on living with this disease but who might not have an easy platform to share those stories–and so this project was born. I’m inviting you to share your story of charming diabetes with me, and I will post it on the blog!
Whether it’s a story of overcoming a particular challenge, a fear you’re facing, a goal you met in spite of Diabetes, or your own letter to Diabetes. Something sad, serious, heartfelt or hysterical–whatever it is we can learn from each other and you might be surprised by how empowering it is to share your story with others! Here’s how it works:
- 1. Draft your story/letter on your computer first. Double check grammar and spelling. Submissions should be less than 2,000 words.
- 2. Fill out this Google Form
- 3. Send me an email with your submission and MY STORY in the subject line to email@example.com
- I’ll be in touch with you via email within 2-3 weeks to schedule your post.
- Once your story is scheduled, you’ll be invited to email me 1-2 photos to include in your post.
P.S. Please Don’t Submit if: You have your own blog–That would be more like a guest post gig, but if you’re interested in that contact me about it here! Also refrain from submitting if you’ve already done so in the last 60 days.
